We are currently seeking a Counsel, Public Sector to serve as a vital business partner in support of Appian's expanding government operations both in the US and internationally. This role will oversee the complete lifecycle of significant public contracts, providing expert contracting guidance from the initial solicitation phase through to proposals, negotiations, post-award administration, auditing, and monitoring.

This position is based at our headquarters in McLean, VA. We are committed to an in-person collaborative culture, which we believe is essential for our success. This role requires employees to be present in the office five days a week, fostering a vibrant environment where ideas and teamwork thrive.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Negotiating, drafting, and advising on software platform licensing and professional services agreements with various government entities and prime contractors globally. Collaborate across departments such as finance, sales operations, product, support, and information security to ensure alignment and mitigate risks in contractual provisions. Types of agreements include those executed through resellers and partnerships with systems integrators, prime contracts, subcontracts, OTA agreements, teaming agreements, and NDAs.
  • Supporting public sector sales, capture, and proposal teams with RFP analysis and responses.
  • Implementing best practices for contracts with Appian’s professional services subcontractors.
  • Advising on compliance with FAR/DFARS, ITAR, and export control regulations.
  • Standardizing our approach to provide required certifications to government entities or prime contractors.
  • Assisting the Facility Security Office in compliance efforts, including Industrial Security and Insider Threat programs.
