Summary
The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking an experienced Data Science Manager to spearhead the Product Analytics team. In this pivotal role, you will report directly to the Senior Director of Research and Decision Science. Your leadership will guide a team of adept data scientists whose analyses will steer the Foundation's strategies aimed at realizing our mission: a world where everyone can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. Collaborating with product managers, designers, engineers, and colleagues across the Wikimedia movement, your team will produce actionable and accessible insights to enhance decision-making within the Foundation and across Wikimedia communities.
As the Data Science Manager for Product Analytics, you will oversee a team of approximately seven data scientists dedicated to leveraging quantitative data and insights to better understand our audiences, shape strategy, inform product decisions, and evaluate the impact of new features. You will be accountable for your team’s output, ensuring timely delivery, data accuracy, and consistent reporting through the establishment of shared data processes and procedures. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in designing data products and tools that enhance data accessibility for stakeholders and decision-makers.
Candidates must reside within UTC+1 to UTC-8 time zones, be available for critical meetings and synchronous work between 14:00 and 22:00 UTC, and be willing to travel for offsite meetings and conferences (up to 4 times annually).
Your Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate quantitative data and insights promptly to guide strategy, influence product decisions, and assess product development impacts, balancing agility with rigor.
- Manage a collaborative team of data scientists, fostering a culture of trust, excellence, and empowerment.
- Mentor team members in critical thinking, data-informed storytelling, technical skills, and stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate with the Experiment Platform & Data Engineering teams to develop and maintain data products that enhance accessibility.
- Work closely with product teams, especially product managers, and colleagues in the Research & Decision Science group to promote data-informed product development.
- Continuously develop and improve experimentation and measurement best practices.
