Salla is on the lookout for a talented and seasoned Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) to take charge of the health and performance of our hybrid cloud database infrastructure. Our large-scale online marketplace operates using various OLTP data stores, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in managing high-availability relational and NoSQL databases, combining hands-on operational capabilities with architectural insight and scripting proficiency. This role requires advanced knowledge of SQL, backup and disaster recovery practices, replication strategies, database auditing, performance tuning, and orchestration using Kubernetes/Docker, alongside observability tools such as Grafana and Prometheus.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain robust database systems ensuring high availability and quality tailored to the specialized roles of end users.
- Design and implement databases that align with the informational needs and perspectives of end users.
- Manage user access and data distribution effectively, ensuring timely and appropriate format delivery.
- Employ high-speed transaction recovery methods and secure data backups.
- Minimize database downtime and optimize parameters for rapid query responses.
- Provide both proactive and reactive data management support, alongside training for users.
- Establish, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards.
- Conduct regular tests and evaluations to uphold data security, privacy, and integrity.
- Monitor database performance, implement necessary changes, and apply updates and patches as required.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, effective communication and collaboration abilities, and the capacity to lead incident calls with clarity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in data modeling and architecture, including designing relational schemas, normalizing data models, and planning sharding or partitioning strategies for high-volume OLTP systems.
- In-depth understanding of advanced security and compliance measures, including encryption at rest/in transit, role-based access controls, auditing frameworks, and compliance standards (ISO, SOC, PCI, etc.).
- Expertise in Elasticache/Redis or similar caching systems to enhance performance and alleviate database load.
- Familiarity with CI/CD processes and DevOps practices, including integrating database modifications into CI/CD pipelines and managing schema migrations using version control systems (Git).
This position supports a hybrid/remote work environment, allowing collaboration across time zones while accommodating on-site meetings as necessary.
