About the job

At Legal Services NYC (LSNYC), we are dedicated to combating poverty and advocating for racial, social, and economic justice for low-income New Yorkers. With over 50 years of experience, we have taken on systemic injustices that keep individuals in poverty, providing essential legal services that address critical needs including housing, income security, family and immigration stability, education, and health care access. As the nation’s largest provider of civil legal services, our team of over 600 professionals across various neighborhood offices serves hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers each year. We collaborate with numerous community-based organizations, public officials, and pro bono attorneys to enhance our impact. Our mission is to fight discrimination and promote equity for all low-income New Yorkers.

LSNYC offers its employees plentiful opportunities for professional growth and development, including access to our internal Justice Learning Center, which provides free CLE courses and training experiences.

Bronx Legal Services is on the lookout for skilled housing attorneys to join our Universal Access to Counsel (UAC) management team as Deputy Director, focusing on eviction prevention and housing law.

About Us:

Bronx Legal Services is the largest provider of free civil legal services in the Bronx and operates as part of the wider Legal Services NYC network across New York City. Our mission is to uphold society’s commitment to ensuring that the most vulnerable individuals have equal access to the legal system.

Our Housing Unit represents low-income Bronx residents in Bronx Housing Court and administrative proceedings, as well as in affirmative cases challenging entities that jeopardize residents’ access to affordable housing. We work closely with local organizations to offer housing rights training to advocates, tenant associations, community members, and groups. The UAC subunit is specifically tasked with implementing New York City’s groundbreaking Right to Counsel law.

The Deputy Director will collaborate closely with the Director and other Deputies to guide the strategic direction and manage both administrative and programmatic operations of the Housing Unit. Key responsibilities include overseeing grant obligations, supervising housing attorneys and staff, fostering relationships with partner organizations, and identifying systemic housing trends that could be influenced by strategic litigation.

Our offices are currently operating on a hybrid work model.
