Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, along with ten (10) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. Professional Engineer (P. E.) or Architecture License. A minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant experience in design and/or project management. Lean Six Sigma Certification. Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Professional. Recent involvement in leadership roles within data center and mission-critical trade organizations. Extensive experience (12 years) in colocation and/or hyper-scale data center design management and engineering. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Adept at working in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments with minimal oversight. Strong team leadership abilities.

AECOM is actively looking for a highly skilled and experienced Design Manager to join our dynamic team, working remotely from any AECOM office within the United States. This pivotal role involves overseeing an array of colocation and hyper-scale data center projects, from initial site assessments and campus planning to conceptual, schematic, and detailed design, culminating in construction documentation and administration.

While the role primarily offers remote work, occasional travel may be necessary for client meetings, critical project milestones, on-site collaboration, or other essential business activities. All travel will be organized in advance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor design teams on data center due diligence and project delivery, ensuring alignment with client requirements and maintaining high-quality standards. Design disciplines include architecture, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security, fire protection, ICT, and BMS/EPMS.
  • Formulate and implement comprehensive multi-site project and program management plans.
  • Facilitate and participate in meetings with clients and external stakeholders.
  • Effectively manage and communicate any changes throughout the project lifecycle to both AECOM teams and clients.
  • Anticipate challenges early and devise innovative solutions.
  • Maintain proactive communication with all stakeholders, providing updates and resolving issues promptly.
  • Prepare technical and financial proposals for new and evolving data center design projects.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with client stakeholders and buyers.
