Your Role in Our Team

We are expanding our team at Sofar Ocean, where we deploy thousands of cost-effective, global ocean sensors in remote locations. We are currently looking for an Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician to be an integral part of our dynamic production team. In this hands-on role, you will utilize your assembly skills to build our advanced smart buoys and sensing platform systems, making a tangible difference for the planet's oceans while collaborating with passionate colleagues.

This position is based on-site at our Pier 28 facility in San Francisco, CA, with typical working hours from 8 AM to 4:30 PM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and test electromechanical components according to specific work instructions, engineering designs, and bills of materials (BOM).

  • Conduct in-process inspections on box builds, sub-assemblies, PCBAs, and cables to ensure quality standards are met.

  • Aid in maintaining production schedules by completing builds promptly and communicating any obstacles.

  • Identify and escalate defects, workmanship issues, or shortages in components as necessary.

  • Log assembly and testing data using Sofar's traceability database.

  • Assist with New Product Introduction (NPI) builds and other engineering tasks, including mechanical modifications and rework.

  • Safely and effectively operate hand tools, power tools, and basic production equipment.

  • Achieve daily production quality and productivity targets.

  • Collect all necessary components, sub-assemblies, tools, and materials for specific work orders.

  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace in accordance with OSHA guidelines and company protocols.

  • Participate in cross-training for other production functions as directed by the company.

  • Adapt quickly to new projects and complete tasks within defined timelines.
