Valid EX inspection certification (e.g., IECEx, CoPC, CompEx EX01–EX04, or equivalent). Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in inspecting electrical installations in hazardous locations. Thorough understanding of:NEC hazardous location requirementsOSHA regulationsNFPA 70Experience with classified areas (Class I, II, III; Division 1 & 2 / Zone 0, 1, 2). Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and P&IDs. Knowledge of explosion-proof enclosures, intrinsically safe systems, cable glands, and conduit seals. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, or chemical manufacturing sectors is preferred.

SGS is actively seeking dedicated Ex-Certified Inspectors (IECEx Ex01-Ex04) across various locations in the USA. Assignments will be made as needed, and compensation will be based on hours worked and any applicable expenses incurred during assignments. The duration of work may range from a single day to several weeks.

As part of the application process, the inspector will enter into an independent contractor agreement (1099) with SGS North America Inc. While hours are not guaranteed and job availability may vary by location, joining our roster ensures you will be among the first contacted when opportunities arise.

We are looking for qualified Ex-Certified Inspectors who are skilled in inspecting, verifying, and ensuring compliance with explosion-protected (Ex) electrical and mechanical equipment used in hazardous (classified) areas. The successful candidate will hold certification in hazardous area inspection (e.g., IECEx, CompEx, or equivalent) and possess a robust understanding of NEC, NFPA, and OSHA standards applicable within the United States.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections of explosion-proof and intrinsically safe equipment in hazardous locations.
  • Ensure compliance with the following standards:
    • NEC (National Electrical Code) Articles 500–516
    • NFPA standards
    • OSHA regulations
    • IECEx / ATEX standards (if applicable)
  • Perform initial, periodic, and detailed inspections as per established schedules.
  • Review engineering drawings, hazardous area classifications, and installation documentation.
  • Identify non-conformities and suggest corrective measures.
  • Prepare comprehensive inspection reports and maintain compliance documentation.
  • Assist in audits, regulatory reviews, and safety investigations.
  • Provide technical support to maintenance and engineering teams.
  • Ensure adherence to company safety policies throughout all operations.
