This Graduate Engineering Trainee position is based in Kancheepuram, Chennai, with Weekday's Client, a transformer manufacturing firm known for its focus on quality and operational excellence. The company has a turnover above ₹100 Crores and aims to reach ₹500 Crores by 2030, serving a wide range of industrial and utility customers.
Role overview
The trainee program provides structured, hands-on training in transformer design, production, quality assurance, and testing. Trainees work alongside experienced engineers, gaining practical exposure to shop floor operations, design workflows, and project execution. The role builds a strong foundation in both mechanical and electrical engineering as applied to transformer manufacturing.
What you will do
- Support transformer design and development, focusing on components such as core, winding, insulation, and cooling systems.
- Assist with production processes including core assembly, coil winding, tank fabrication, and final assembly.
- Participate in quality assurance and testing activities, covering routine, type, and special tests.
- Review technical documents, engineering drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with procurement, planning, and maintenance teams.
- Help identify process improvements and contribute to lean manufacturing practices.
- Maintain accurate documentation and prepare technical reports related to production, testing, and performance.
- Promote safety and support a culture of continuous improvement and quality.
Requirements
- Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering fundamentals.
- Familiarity with electromagnetics, thermodynamics, materials, and basic manufacturing principles.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Keen interest in learning and working in a manufacturing or shop floor environment.
Preferred qualifications
- Internship or academic experience related to transformer manufacturing or heavy electrical equipment.
- Experience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks, or with electrical design software.
- Basic knowledge of quality tools and manufacturing methodologies.
Experience
This role is open to recent graduates. No prior work experience is required.
Compensation
Full-time position. Salary range: ₹180,000 - ₹216,000 (INR 1.8 - 2.16 LPA).
