About the job
ikeja is looking for a Junior Rigger to join the team in Midrand, Gauteng. This field-based position plays a key part in building and maintaining telecom infrastructure across Gauteng, helping to improve connectivity in South Africa’s townships. Junior Riggers work directly with the Lead Rigging Engineer to deliver projects safely and to a high standard.
Main responsibilities
- Assist with rigging and maintaining masts, towers, and other telecom structures
- Support infrastructure deployments, including trenching, groundwork, and equipment installation
- Install site equipment, protective structures, and security features
- Help with grounding (earthing) and preparing foundations at project sites
- Assist with installing, securing, and maintaining power-related equipment
- Carry out basic welding, metalwork, and fabrication of infrastructure components
- Deploy and remove site equipment as needed
- Conduct preventative maintenance on masts, towers, and related structures
- Support other field and infrastructure teams when required
Working conditions
- Travel to sites throughout Gauteng is expected
- Work may take place outside standard hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Standby duties and call-outs may be part of the job, depending on operational needs
- Comfort with outdoor work in all weather conditions is important
Safety and compliance
- Follow all safety standards and working-at-height protocols at all times
- Use tools, equipment, and materials safely
- Work closely with the Lead Rigger; high-risk tasks are never performed alone
Driving and site support
- Drive company vehicles as needed (requires a valid driver’s license and at least 1 year of driving experience)
