Job Title: Lead Senior Special Process EngineerReporting to: Head of QualityDirect Reports: Special Process EngineerRole Overview:The Lead Senior Special Process Engineer is the principal Subject Matter Expert (SME) and technical authority for all special processes at Senior Aerospace Thermal Engineering (SATE). This includes Non-Conventional Machining, Welding, Chemical Processing, Heat Treatment, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). The role entails strategic oversight and hands-on management of the entire process lifecycle, encompassing machine and plant qualification, Nadcap/customer accreditations, operator certification, and advanced engineering support. As an integral member of the Extended Leadership Team, you will champion operational excellence, oversee capital enhancements, and spearhead the evolution of the special process engineering function.Key Responsibilities:Maintain all Nadcap and customer special process approvals, ensuring audit accountability and managing non-conformance issues, deviations, and the implementation of special process enhancements.Stay updated on special process requirements, ensuring alignment of internal procedures with customer and Nadcap standards.Develop and implement internal special process audit plans, including the review and resolution of non-conformance reports (NCRs).Lead investigations into significant quality non-conformances related to special processes and support related projects in the engineering department.Oversee the creation, maintenance, and approval of all internal documentation associated with special processes, such as procedures, data sheets, and inspection methods.Actively participate in the development of special process control by attending Nadcap meetings as a Supplier Task Group member.Assist the Head of Quality with customer quality issues and take the lead on subsequent problem-solving initiatives.Manage REACH compliance and sub-contract processes, approving changes to special processes when safety concerns arise.Review and approve all modifications to special processes, including the disposition of ‘return to service’ forms concerning special process equipment maintenance.Serve as the process owner and primary contact for all matters related to special processes, coordinating with external stakeholders as necessary (e.g., NDT level 3).Support Quality in process audits—internal, subcontractor, customer, and third-party (Nadcap)—responding to inquiries on specialist areas of responsibility.Manage external stakeholders, including NDT specialists, Nadcap auditors, and customer technical experts in special processes.Lead and promote continuous improvement initiatives across the special process engineering domain.
