About the Position
We are seeking passionate, customer-centric software engineers to develop tailored software solutions that harness OpenAI’s APIs to tackle real-world challenges. As a Forward Deployed Software Engineer (FDSWE), you will engage directly with clients and collaborate with OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineers to design and implement scalable solutions, addressing their most pressing issues. You will create abstractions that resolve customer challenges and enhance our speed and quality of delivery across all engagements.
Your role will involve close collaboration with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Solutions Architects, and Customer Success Managers working on the same accounts. You will also liaise with our Research and Applied Product and Engineering teams to relay valuable customer insights.
This position is based in Tokyo, and we embrace a hybrid work model with three in-office days a week. We also provide relocation assistance for new hires.
To excel in this role, you must be fully bilingual in Japanese and English (both spoken and written). Please submit your resume in English, as the interview process will include discussions in both languages.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
Deeply engage with key customers to thoroughly understand their business challenges and technical requirements.
Design, architect, and develop full-stack solutions through an iterative, experiment-driven methodology.
Create comprehensive scopes of work and project plans for both proof-of-concept prototypes and full production rollouts.
Collaborate hands-on with client technical teams as a trusted advisor and technical expert, coding alongside them to ensure project success.
Work with Product, Research, and Applied teams to facilitate seamless customer interactions and actionable project feedback.
Contribute to internal knowledge bases by documenting best practices and sharing insights gleaned from customer engagements to enhance the Forward Deployed Engineering function.
