We are on the lookout for exceptional engineers of all levels to accelerate our journey as we branch out beyond heat pumps.
About Spruce
We have taken on the most critical aspect of the home energy transition: replacing traditional boilers with cutting-edge heat pumps. With heating responsible for nearly 20% of the UK’s carbon emissions, a credible approach to reaching net zero emissions necessitates the replacement of gas and oil boilers. Today, heat pumps stand out as the only scalable alternative, boasting the incredible capability to convert 1kW of electricity into 4kW of heat ().
However, the installation process is often slow, disjointed, and manual, raising costs for homeowners and hindering the growth of installation businesses. This is where we come in. We have developed a comprehensive operating system for heat pump installers, covering everything from initial inquiry to design, installation, compliance, and paperwork. Compared to existing solutions, Spruce:
- Reduces installation time by half;
- Doubles sales conversion rates;
- Enhances quality, profit margins, and overall customer experience.
And this is just the beginning. With new investments and increasing demand, we are expanding our services across the entire home renewables supply chain, supporting manufacturers and merchants alongside installers, and enabling solar and battery installations along with heat pumps.
The Role
In this role, you will collaborate closely with a talented team of engineers, designers, and domain experts to build and scale the tools that drive the Spruce platform.
Depending on your experience level, you may:
- Take ownership and deliver complex features from start to finish;
- Influence system architecture and technical direction;
- Mentor teammates and elevate the team's standards;
- Or, if you are earlier in your career, learn rapidly by tackling meaningful production challenges with significant ownership from day one.
The challenges you will address are diverse and profound, including:
- Heat loss modeling and hydronic system design;
- 2D and 3D floor-plan tools utilizing LiDAR and computer vision;
- Large-scale data ingestion and geospatial analysis;
- Offline-first, collaborative Progressive Web Apps (PWAs);
- Hardware integrations with Bluetooth measurement tools, sensors, and more.
