Main Requirements
- All interpreters must hold a valid UK driver’s license and have access to their own vehicle.
- Successful applicants must provide a current and valid Enhanced CRB clearance.
- References must be available to verify interpreting and translation experience.
- Fluency in English is essential, alongside cultural competence and fluency in your native language(s).
Role Overview
This position requires consecutive interpretation, where the interpreter is in close proximity to the speaker, accurately converting speech from one language to another without omissions or alterations. As a translator, you will work across various industries, handling diverse documents including scientific, legal, and literary texts, ensuring the original meaning is conveyed with precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpreters will only interpret in their native language.
- Provide interpretation services in various settings such as Mental Health, GP Practices, Hospitals, Dental Practices, Police Settings, Court Proceedings, Local Authorities, Schools, and Social Services.
- Interpret verbal communications in real-time, paying close attention to context, meaning, tone, and technical language.
- Consult reference materials to stay updated on terminology and gain specialist knowledge when necessary to ensure clarity, especially when faced with conflicting meanings.
- Attend scheduled assignments and manage your own transportation to and from these assignments.
- Maintain high professional standards, uphold confidentiality, and adhere to the Interpreter Code of Conduct as outlined by NRPSI, IOL, ATC, and ITI.
- Engage in community outreach projects, gathering and compiling feedback.
