Job Summary
The Generator Technician plays a vital role in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of standby and prime power generator systems, along with associated electrical equipment in a mission-critical industrial or government support setting. This includes working with diesel and gas-powered generator sets, automatic transfer switches (ATS), switchgear, control systems, and related power distribution equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of generator systems, including MTU generators and related electrical equipment.
- Test, troubleshoot, and repair automatic transfer switches (ATS), switchgear, control panels, battery systems, and power distribution equipment.
- Perform load-bank testing, commissioning, and system start-ups to validate generator and ATS performance.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and OEM documentation to identify issues and implement repairs.
- Adhere to safety standards, including NFPA, OSHA, and local electrical codes.
- Be on call to respond to after-hours emergency situations on a rotating schedule.
- Maintain precise service records, manage parts inventory, and track work orders.
- Effectively communicate with operations management, facility staff, and external vendors as necessary.
