Join our dynamic team at LaBella Associates as a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician in Rochester, NY! In this role, you will be pivotal in supporting a variety of SUE activities associated with land surveying and multi-disciplinary projects. You'll have the opportunity to lead daily field operations while collaborating with a talented group of technicians, engineers, and surveyors, ensuring the safe and precise identification, mapping, and survey of utility systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize and maintain SUE utility locating and designating equipment, including electromagnetic induction and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), to accurately identify and map subsurface utilities.
- Read and interpret utility prints, design plans, and utility infrastructure maps.
- Exhibit strong communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and experience in managing field crews.
- Assist in the daily operations of both field and office teams across various SUE projects.
- Engage in weekly scheduling and coordination meetings with the project team.
- Compile detailed and accurate daily reports, field sketches, and forms both electronically and by hand.
- Support the QA/QC process for final SUE deliverables.
- Represent the land survey group within multi-discipline project teams.
- Collaborate with various disciplines to identify opportunities for SUE services.
- Ensure the upkeep of existing technology.
- Manage the archiving of records.
- Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- AAS or BS degree in a technology discipline such as land surveying, engineering, geology, forestry, or landscape architecture.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a position of responsibility demonstrating management experience, utility design, and coordination.
- Previous SUE experience in an engineering design environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with utility designation, records research, and field operations documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of land surveying systems, procedures, and technology.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, and Inroads software is a plus.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Maintain a current driver’s license in good standing and operate company-owned vehicles.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Experience with DOT, municipal, or public utility projects is advantageous.
- OSHA Safety certifications are a plus.
Salary: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
