About the job

Vizzia provides hardware solutions, including cameras, stations, and accessories, to over 250 local authorities, with plans to reach 450 by the end of 2026. The company is expanding both its technical capabilities and its market presence, following a recent €30M Series B funding round. This growth brings new challenges in delivering reliable, industrial-grade products at scale.

The Hardware R&D team at Vizzia covers electronics, mechanics, and firmware. The Lead Hardware Engineer will play a central role in shaping system architecture, setting technical standards, and ensuring that lab innovations become robust products in the field. This position works closely with David, Head of Hardware, and the Paris-based hardware team.

Main responsibilities

Architecture and Technical Decisions

  • Oversee system architecture across electronics, mechanics, and firmware, balancing performance, cost, and maintainability.
  • Guide technical decisions in high-speed design and embedded systems, providing clear rationales for choices.
  • Anticipate requirements for EMC, CE, and NDAA certifications from the start of each project.
  • Strive for simplicity in design, removing unnecessary complexity.

Industrialization and Quality

  • Integrate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) constraints early in the process.
  • Develop and enforce validation plans that go beyond lab testing, including functional, environmental, EMC, and field tests.
  • Prepare thorough industrial documentation for production, such as BOM, Gerber files, test reports, and procedures.
  • Manage BOM costs and secure key components by establishing dual sourcing strategies.
  • Lead go/no-go reviews before each hardware release and make final decisions.

Technical Standards and Team Development

  • Set and uphold high engineering standards for the hardware team, including documentation, validation, design reviews, and best practices.
  • Serve as a technical reference for junior and mid-level engineers, supporting them in solving complex challenges.
