Mining Engineering Internship Overview
This Houston-based internship places students in the Process & Plant Engineering division, working directly on the CopperOne project. Mining Engineering Interns collaborate with experienced engineers and industry professionals, tackling practical challenges and contributing to real project outcomes.
Interns gain hands-on experience developing and deploying solutions, not just supporting day-to-day tasks.
Main Responsibilities
- Support mine planning activities, including pit optimization, production scheduling, and resource classification.
- Help document and standardize engineering workflows to improve consistency and efficiency for the mine planning team.
- Spot automation opportunities for repetitive tasks and assist with scripting using Python, VBA, or APIs from mine planning software.
- Compile technical datasets (such as topographic data, drill hole databases, and resource block models) and perform quality assurance checks.
- Assist in preparing technical reports and study documents that meet NI 43-101 or SK-1300 standards.
Desired Qualifications
- Current enrollment in a B. S. or M. S. program in Mining Engineering, with coursework in mine design, geostatistics, or resource estimation.
- Familiarity with mine planning software (Leapfrog, Vulcan, or Datamine preferred).
- Basic programming skills in Python or a similar language, with an interest in automation for engineering tasks.
- Strong organizational skills and comfort handling large technical datasets.
- Interest in critical minerals, lithium, or early-stage project development is a plus.
