Role overview

The Paralegal for Post-Conviction Litigation (PCL) supports attorneys in efforts to free innocent individuals. This position handles research, drafts legal documents, and manages a variety of administrative responsibilities. Daily tasks include organizing case files, maintaining records and data, and responding to urgent litigation needs. Keeping departmental resources in order is also important in this role.

PCL Paralegals work closely with attorneys to communicate with clients and assist with investigations. Collaboration may extend to other teams, such as Communications. Typically, the PCL Paralegal reports to two PCL Attorneys and may help train interns and volunteers. Teamwork with all PCL staff and law clinic students is a regular part of the job.

Work location and schedule

  • Position based in New York, NY
  • Hybrid schedule: in-office three days per week, remote for the other days
  • Wednesday is the required in-office anchor day for all staff
  • Approximately 40 hours per week
  • In-office requirements may change in the future
