Position Objective:
The Patient Safety Attendant plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of patients within the healthcare setting. This position involves assisting nursing staff in monitoring patients, particularly those on emergency petitions, displaying behavioral issues, or at risk for falls.
By collaborating with the healthcare team, the Patient Safety Attendant contributes to the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care.
Essential Job Duties:

1. Maintain patient safety and security by remaining vigilant and attentive at all times; observe patient behavior and report to the appropriate staff as necessary.
2. Closely monitor patient behavior, maintaining proximity and line-of-sight for suicidal and petitioned patients as required during sitter duties.
3. Execute responsibilities adhering to established standards for age groups, from preschool through adulthood, demonstrating understanding of growth and development principles.
4. Set behavioral limits under the guidance of registered nurses or mental health clinicians, intervening to mitigate inappropriate behavior by consistently enforcing rules, including managing patient telephone usage as directed.
5. Execute additional tasks as assigned, including unit supply stocking, environmental care, and room preparation and safety.
6. Follow the patient’s care plan under the direction of the registered nurse, communicating any non-compliance or inappropriate behavior.
7. Document required safety checks accurately and consistently using appropriate forms.
8. Ensure appropriate visitation as per registered nurse directives and verify that items brought to patients by family or visitors are permissible and safe.
9. Maintain confidentiality regarding all patient information during interactions with patients, families, visitors, and staff.
10. Support basic patient activities as directed by the registered nurse and assist with patient transports as needed.
