Are you ready to challenge the boundaries of what’s possible?We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:Extensive experience in flood forecasting modelling (Flood Modeller). In-depth understanding of Environment Agency requirements, including the preparation of flood forecasting models compatible with their Incident Management Forecasting Systems. Demonstrated expertise in applying and calibrating hydrological models for flood forecasting (e.g., Muskingum-Cunge, Probability Distribution Model). Exceptional analytical skills, with experience in processing and analyzing hydrometric data, including gauge rating reviews. A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related field. Proficient in GIS technologies (QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or MapInfo). Working knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Anaconda, Ruby, or similar) is advantageous. You should also exhibit self-motivation with the ability to work autonomously when required, in addition to being a collaborative team player.

Are you prepared to collaborate with a team of flood risk specialists and influence the future of the Water Industry?

We are seeking a Principal or Associate Flood Forecasting Modeller to join our expanding Water team. In this senior technical role, you will lead teams in delivering innovative real-time flood forecasting projects while assisting in the expansion of our services with the Environment Agency and beyond.

Your primary focus will be on flood forecasting, but you will also have the chance to engage in broader hydrology and non-real-time modelling initiatives.

Your Responsibilities

  • Generate and assess Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports, evaluating the quality of existing models and hydrometric data.
  • Develop, calibrate, and validate flood forecasting models (e.g., PDM, Flood Modeller).
  • Conduct non-real-time modelling and hydrological analysis using tools such as Flood Modeller, ICM, HEC-RAS, MIKE 11, and FEH hydrological methods.
  • Prepare and review high-caliber technical reports documenting model construction and associated uncertainties.
  • Lead and contribute to proposals for key clients.
  • Guide and mentor team members in their professional growth.
  • Establish strong relationships with clients and colleagues across various disciplines.
  • Stay informed about legislation and guidelines pertinent to our services.
  • Utilize AECOM’s project management systems to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery of high-quality outputs.
