AECOM’s Ports and Marine team seeks a Principal Engineer with expertise in civil and structural engineering to lead our team on various projects.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player, driven and proactive in supporting colleagues, managing project inputs, and fulfilling client needs while adhering to budget and quality standards. Joining our established Ports and Marine team, which boasts over 100 years of combined experience, you will play a crucial role in the technical delivery of diverse projects. Our key clients range from local authorities and private companies to defense contractors, both in the UK and internationally.

This position offers the flexibility to be based anywhere in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the planning, preparation, and successful delivery of project deliverables.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience in presenting high-quality calculations, proficiently using current software tools (e.g., ROBOT, GRLWEAP, WALLAP, TEDDS, PLAXIS 3D).
  • Review and critique technical specifications, reports, and notes, ensuring high standards are met.
  • Evaluate design, drawings, and specifications to guarantee timely and accurate outcomes.
  • Mentor junior staff to develop their technical skills and knowledge.
  • Engage and communicate effectively with clients and other disciplines to ensure a clear understanding of project scope and deliverables while assisting in tender preparations (including cost estimates and written quality/technical inputs).
  • Possess experience in designing structures within the marine environment (e.g., quay walls, piers, jetties, breakwaters, scour protection).
  • Maintain a strong understanding of British Standards, Eurocodes, and best practices in the maritime sector.
  • Be familiar with CDM regulations, safety in design, and CEMD.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects of varying complexity and budget.
  • Experience collaborating within multi-disciplinary teams, particularly in the UK maritime industry.
