Position Overview
We are searching for a meticulous and experienced Medical Biller and Coder specializing in Podiatry to enhance our healthcare team. The successful candidate will oversee the entire billing process, ensuring precision in medical coding while facilitating prompt payments from both insurance providers and patients. A comprehensive grasp of podiatry-specific medical terminology, coding frameworks, and collections processes is critical for excelling in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately process medical billing claims utilizing the appropriate coding systems including ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS tailored to podiatric practices.
- Examine patient records to confirm all requisite information is present for billing.
- Authenticate insurance coverage and benefits prior to claim submissions to guarantee correct reimbursements.
- Follow up on outstanding claims and execute medical collections as required.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all billing transactions and interactions with insurance entities and patients.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to address any billing or coding discrepancies.
- Stay informed of updates in medical billing regulations, coding methodologies, and insurance policies.
- Effectively utilize medical office systems to manage billing processes while ensuring patient confidentiality.
- Prepare for and respond to audits by payers or government entities concerning podiatric services.
- Monitor and assess key performance indicators (KPIs) such as denial rates and accounts receivable durations.
- Assist in contract negotiations as necessary and manage appeals and denials related to podiatry coverage.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in medical billing, coding, or a related area, ideally within podiatry or surgical specialties.
- Strong understanding of podiatry-specific medical terminology, DRG (Diagnosis Related Group), and various coding systems (ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS).
- Familiarity with medical records management and the healthcare reimbursement landscape.
- Exceptional attention to detail with robust organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills to interact with healthcare professionals, insurance representatives, and patients.
- Proficient in medical office software, EHRs, and billing systems.
- Certification in medical billing or coding is advantageous but not mandatory; advanced certifications or specialty credentials in podiatry coding are highly preferred.
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance, fraud prevention, and audit readiness.
