POSITION OVERVIEW
This role involves performing complex civil engineering tasks under general supervision, including overseeing the design and execution of major capital improvement projects. Responsibilities include preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for intricate city projects related to sewer and water systems, alongside innovative public works initiatives.
An eligibility list will be created to fill the current vacancy focusing on water and wastewater project management in the Public Works Department, as well as future related full-time, part-time, or temporary engineering openings.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS
The Senior Civil Engineer serves as the first line of supervision within the professional engineering series, distinguished by a higher degree of autonomy in task execution, complexity of assignments, and oversight of both registered and non-registered engineers.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will:
- Exhibit expertise in managing, scheduling, and monitoring multiple engineering projects within budget and on time.
- Possess a solid background in water and wastewater project management.
- Demonstrate collaborative leadership skills to effectively guide staff and contractors.
- Employ a team-oriented methodology and work harmoniously with diverse groups.
- Have outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Planning, coordinating, and directing major engineering projects, including challenging engineering tasks for public works initiatives.
- Managing, scheduling, and tracking multiple projects simultaneously.
- Preparing detailed engineering reports.
- Assisting the Principal Civil Engineer in formulating capital improvement programs and associated budgets.
- Developing permit fees and updating standard construction details.
