About the job
Intent seeks a Senior Embedded Engineer with strong Embedded C experience. This is a freelance, remote position paid on a time and materials basis: hours worked on active client projects are compensated directly. The engagement begins immediately. The first three months serve as a trial period to get familiar with the team and workflow. If the collaboration works well, there is a clear path to join Intent’s core team with a monthly salary, paid time off, and a comprehensive benefits package.
What you will do
- Develop and maintain embedded firmware in C for STM32-based connected devices
- Work with the Modus SDK and Cypress/Infineon ecosystem to ensure hardware meets or exceeds requirements
- Integrate and optimize FreeRTOS, focusing on task management, priorities, queues, interrupts, and embedded systems best practices
Who thrives here
Engineers who enjoy exploring edge cases and examining the details of silicon, software stacks, and radio communications tend to succeed at Intent. Curiosity, a drive to understand technical decisions, and the confidence to question assumptions are valued. The team emphasizes clear communication, ownership, and a proactive mindset, especially in using AI to improve engineering outcomes. Those seeking only routine work or minimal interaction may not find the environment a fit.
Intent has designed and co-created connected devices since 2008 for clients including Oura, BOSE, and Neurable. Projects cover wearables, smart audio, and health-tech hardware. The fully remote team of over 60 people is backed by investors such as a16z and Founders Fund. AI is part of daily operations. Engineers with backgrounds in C for antennas, sensors, or medical-grade hardware often feel at home here.
