About the job
At Oxford Ionics, now a part of IonQ, we stand at the forefront of quantum computing innovation. Our world-class trapped-ion technology is crafting quantum systems that outperform today’s supercomputers in problem-solving capabilities.
Becoming a member of the Oxford Ionics team means joining a global IonQ community dedicated to accelerating the future of quantum technology, delivering scalable solutions with tangible real-world impact.
Role Overview:
We are looking for a hands-on Senior Quantum Systems Architect to help shape the future of trapped-ion quantum computers, centered on electronic qubit control. This role places you at the nexus of science and engineering, enabling you to influence architectural decisions in a dynamic environment where continuous feedback drives innovation.
The Systems Architecture team is responsible for establishing the long-term technical vision, translating system objectives into actionable engineering specifications, and iterating on architectural designs based on empirical data. You will play a crucial role in maintaining coherent, scalable system designs while navigating practical engineering constraints as programs advance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead system-level architecture initiatives, defining requirements, interfaces, and integration assumptions across all components.
- Convert system goals into detailed engineering specifications and actionable work packages for various domain teams, including electronics, controls/software, and experimental hardware.
- Document and justify trade-off decisions between subsystems, considering performance, reliability, and scalability, backed by evidence and analysis.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and science teams throughout the design, manufacturing, operation, and characterization phases of new systems, adapting architectural plans based on experimental results.
- Effectively communicate complex technical decisions to diverse audiences, promoting rapid alignment and effective execution.
