Educational/Experience Requirements:Must be currently enrolled in an accredited registered nursing program. Preferred: Successful completion of the first year of a clinical nursing program and completion of at least one clinical semester. Required License/Certifications:CNA certification through the Maryland Board of Nursing is preferred.

Position Objective:

As a Student Nurse Patient Care Technician in the General Surgical Unit, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, cost-effective healthcare. You will provide direct patient care while collaborating closely with a dedicated healthcare team. This position emphasizes self-motivation in performing essential nursing tasks and engaging with the team nursing concept by completing assigned duties from the registered nurse.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Deliver compassionate, direct care to patients, focusing on personal hygiene during morning and bedtime routines while implementing safety measures and comfort care.
  2. Assist with patient admissions by warmly welcoming them, performing initial weight measurements, vital sign checks, and orienting them to their room and available equipment.
  3. Support patient discharges by helping with dressing, collecting personal belongings, and ensuring safe transport to the lobby; also prepare the room for environmental staff cleaning.
  4. Engage in patient care activities including monitoring vital signs and intake/output data collection, adhering to established policies; obtain specimens as required, and assist patients with mobility and positioning as directed by the physician or unit protocols.
  5. Identify and promptly report pain, patient complaints, or significant changes in patient conditions to the designated nurse.
  6. Participate in the onboarding and orientation of new staff, providing mentorship as needed.
  7. Transport medications as necessary while maintaining compliance with medication security policies, ensuring delivery only to authorized personnel.
  8. Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of supplies and equipment within the unit.
  9. Safely transport patients in accordance with established safety protocols.
  10. Process medical staff orders in accordance with established procedures, ensuring urgent or STAT orders are communicated promptly.
