About the job

Legal Services NYC (LSNYC) is dedicated to combating poverty and pursuing racial, social, and economic justice for low-income individuals across New York City. For over half a century, we have addressed systemic injustices that perpetuate poverty, offering legal assistance that enables our clients to secure essential needs such as housing, income, family stability, immigration status, education, and healthcare. As the largest civil legal services provider in the nation, our team of over 600 professionals in community-based offices and outreach sites throughout the five boroughs serves hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers each year. We actively collaborate with numerous community organizations, public officials, pro bono attorneys, and judicial institutions to amplify our impact. Our mission includes fighting discrimination and promoting equity for all low-income residents of New York City.

At LSNYC, employees are afforded numerous avenues for professional growth and development, including our internal Justice Learning Center that offers opportunities to obtain free Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits and gain experience as a trainer.

Bronx Legal Services is seeking seasoned housing attorneys to join the Universal Access to Counsel (UAC) supervisory team within our eviction prevention and housing practice.

About Our Organization:

Bronx Legal Services is the largest provider of complimentary civil legal services in the Bronx and is part of the larger Legal Services NYC network that spans across New York City. Our mission is to uphold society’s commitment to ensuring that our most vulnerable members have equal access to the legal system.

We are in search of candidates who thrive in dynamic environments and are eager to implement innovative strategies in the pursuit of justice. Responsibilities will include overseeing the work of several housing staff attorneys across a diverse range of housing matters while maintaining a manageable caseload. Supervising attorneys will be responsible for monitoring court appearances in civil, supreme, and federal courts, reviewing draft pleadings, motions, and court submissions, as well as supporting the filing of affirmative cases on behalf of tenants and tenant groups. The UAC subunit specifically focuses on executing New York City’s pioneering Right to Counsel law.

Supervising attorneys will collaborate closely with the Housing Unit Director, Deputy Directors, and other Supervising Attorneys to guide the Housing Unit's direction, enhance relationships with partner community organizations, and identify systemic housing-related trends that could be influenced by strategic litigation.

We are looking for individuals who demonstrate a fervent commitment to social justice and have a proven track record of advocacy.
