About the Team
Join OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineering team, where we collaborate with clients to transform groundbreaking research into effective production systems. We operate at the dynamic intersection of customer delivery and core platform development.
About the Role
As the Technical Deployment Lead (TDL) for Life Sciences, you will spearhead the delivery of intricate systems to our clients. Your role encompasses overseeing the architecture, shipment, and adoption of these systems. You will convert business objectives into actionable technical strategies, oversee daily operations with Forward Deployed Engineers, Researchers, and Customer Engineers, while closely collaborating with client teams to ensure alignment with their goals.
Focusing on the Life Sciences sector, you will engage with pharmaceutical companies, clinical research organizations, and various data and service providers to implement cutting-edge AI solutions throughout their drug discovery, development, and operational processes. You will manage the entire delivery process: embedding with Life Sciences clients to define workflows and success metrics, ensuring timely shipments of components, and leading change management for successful adoption. Your responsibilities will also include tracking progress, managing dependencies, making sequencing decisions, and driving prototypes from inception through to MVP and scaling. Additionally, you will relay field insights to Product and Research teams to inform future roadmaps and priorities.
Success in this role will be primarily evaluated by the impact of deployments on customer objectives, fostering adoption and integration into their workflows. Secondary success metrics will include delivery reliability, operating leverage, sound judgment under pressure, and the overall product impact on guiding roadmaps and architectures.
This position offers a high degree of trust and autonomy. Achieving success will require a profound expertise in technical project management, a strong sense of ownership over outcomes, and the ability to immerse oneself in client workflows to collaboratively address complex engineering challenges swiftly.
This role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model requiring 3 days in the office per week. Relocation assistance is available, and travel up to 50% will be necessary.
In this role, you will:
Own the technical delivery plan for multiple interdependent workstreams, translating business objectives into a structured roadmap with milestones, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
Run day-to-day execution across various teams to ensure alignment and progress towards objectives.
