Role overview
The AI Architect sits at the center of Datacom’s AI transformation for the Australia and New Zealand market. This leadership role shapes the technical direction for AI-driven solutions, ensuring every architecture is scalable, secure, and ready for production. The position bridges business strategy with technical execution, translating complex requirements into practical frameworks using modern cloud platforms, large language models, and agentic AI methods.
As part of the Digital Engineering team, the AI Architect guides engineering teams, evaluates and selects technologies, and sets architectural standards. The work spans multiple projects and business units, directly influencing Datacom’s future in AI.
What you will do
- Own the technical architecture for AI-powered solutions across customer projects
- Evaluate, select, and standardize AI technologies, frameworks, and platforms for the organization
- Develop reference architectures, design patterns, and best practices for delivering AI solutions
- Lead architectural reviews and provide technical governance across delivery teams
- Collaborate with product owners, data scientists, and engineering leads to turn business needs into scalable technical designs
- Design data architectures for AI workloads, including ingestion, processing, storage, and retrieval
- Establish and advocate for engineering standards around AI quality, testing, security, and observability
- Guide build-versus-buy decisions and manage relationships with vendors and technology partners
- Mentor engineering teams in AI architecture and best practices
- Stay current with AI trends and developments, providing insights and recommendations to the organization
Requirements
- Extensive background in software engineering and hands-on AI expertise
- Experience designing and implementing AI architectures using modern cloud platforms and large language models
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into technical solutions
- Leadership in setting architectural standards and guiding teams
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and business stakeholders
