Prior experience in biorepository or laboratory settings is preferred but not mandatory.

About the job

Position Summary:

The Biorepository Technician I is responsible for supporting the shipment and receipt, as well as the retrieval and preservation of biological samples that arrive daily or are stored within the repository.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Freezer Monitoring:
    • Respond to freezer alarms according to established standard operating procedures.
    • Oversee the temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, and ambient storage areas as designated by the Manager.
  • Sample Receipt:
    • Unbox specimens and accurately log all relevant information into the Incoming Shipment Batch and associated folders.
    • Create folders to organize all related documentation.
    • Ensure samples are stored at the correct temperature in compliance with established guidelines.
    • Issue confirmation of shipment receipt forms when required by specific projects.
  • Supply Inventory Management:
    • Cross-verify shipment contents against packing lists.
    • Place Raw Materials into quarantine for quality assurance release.
  • Frozen Biological Sample Inventory:
    • Validate sample vial information against data provided by study sites.
    • Utilize the data management system, BSI, to scan samples.
    • Amend documentation when necessary and notify the supervisor/manager of any discrepancies through discrepancy reports.
    • Assist in inventory management of returned specimens.
    • Perform aliquoting of frozen specimens using aseptic techniques.
  • Sample Retrieval and Shipping:
    • Extract samples in accordance with requisition forms, standard operating procedures, and other instructions.
    • Conduct quality control checks on outgoing samples.
    • Maintain the Outgoing Batch Record.
    • Contact receiving laboratories before shipment to confirm shipping addresses and availability to receive specimens.
    • Ship samples (including hazardous and non-hazardous materials) via commercial or local courier services.
    • Complete all necessary documentation including link-up forms, aliquot forms, return forms, or BSI data collection sheets.
  • Miscellaneous Responsibilities:
    • Label vials and shipping containers accurately.
    • Conduct quality control on dry shippers.
    • Stay updated on IATA Shipping Regulations and maintain required certifications and standards.
    • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
