BACKGROUNDSince January 2020, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has commissioned a new project entitled “Forests4Future (F4F)”. This project supports the implementation of commitments made by Madagascar, Ethiopia, Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, and Togo under the AFR100 initiative (African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative). The AFR100 initiative aims to restore 100 million hectares of degraded forests and lands in Africa by 2030. In Cameroon, the F4F project assists the government in restoring degraded forest landscapes and supports the design and implementation of forest landscape restoration strategies and activities (RPF). The project primarily focuses on the municipalities of Yoko and Nanga-Eboko in the Centre Region, aiming to rehabilitate the ecological and productive functions of degraded forest ecosystems.In this context, F4F also aims to establish mixed agroforestry systems and develop value chains related to RPF. The project revolves around three main action areas: 1) Improving operational capacities to strengthen governance structures that ensure local and inter-community planning for the implementation of RPF measures around the community forests of Yoko and Nanga Eboko;2) Enabling local communities and producers to implement RPF measures based on land use plans surrounding the community forests of Yoko and Nanga Eboko;3) Developing and enhancing alternative income sources for households within the peripheral areas of the community forests of Yoko and Nanga Eboko.To support its activities, the Landscape Restoration and Good Governance in the Forestry Sector in Cameroon (Forests4Future-F4F) project is seeking an Academic Intern in Forestry for its office in Yoko, who will work on the domestication of Njansang (Ricinodendron heudelotii).The project collaborates with producers across approximately 18 different sites in community plantations, where it is essential to capitalize on and analyze the applied methods to improve plantation survival rates.
