The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in embodying the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine. This position requires adherence to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, alongside compliance with relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Medical Assistant is primarily responsible for supporting physicians, nurses, and licensed medical staff in ensuring efficient patient flow, assisting in various patient care activities, and performing related administrative tasks. Key responsibilities include maintaining clean and safe patient care areas, fostering patient satisfaction through professional interactions, and safeguarding patient confidentiality.Key Responsibilities:Ensure smooth patient flow through the clinic by escorting patients to exam rooms, verifying their identity using two identifiers, and preparing them for examinations. Accurately obtain and document vital signs, reason for visit, allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy information. Promptly alert the provider and registered nurse regarding any significant changes in vital signs or acute symptoms, while anticipating the necessary equipment or supplies for each visit. Maintain cleanliness and readiness of exam rooms for subsequent patients. Assist healthcare practitioners with medical and surgical procedures, adhering to established protocols for tasks such as Electrocardiogram (ECG), venipuncture, immunizations, procedure tray setup, specimen collection, and CLIA-waived testing as directed by the provider. Deliver high-quality care by ensuring all exam rooms in the treatment area are well-stocked and maintained according to established protocols for disinfecting and sterilizing equipment and instruments. Participate in environmental safety rounds and maintain inventory of vaccines and medications. Help order supplies and dispose of expired items appropriately, while adhering to office opening and closing procedures. Act as an integral member of the patient care team, enhancing patient satisfaction through professional and friendly interactions. Accept and perform delegated responsibilities positively, offer assistance to colleagues, attend staff meetings, and communicate effectively with patients and the care team both in person and via phone. Perform specialty-related delegated procedures safely and efficiently.
