MEDIUM VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN (STARSHIP)
As a Medium Voltage Electrician at SpaceX, you will play a critical role in the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment within substations and power grid facilities. Your work will ensure the safe and reliable delivery of power. Initially, you will handle energized equipment up to 260 volts, advancing to higher voltages (above 750 volts) as you gain experience and training. You will collaborate closely with experienced personnel in high- and medium-voltage settings, adhering to stringent safety protocols. This position merges essential duties from the substation technician and station electrician roles, emphasizing hands-on training and teamwork.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment, including breakers, transformers, switches, relays, buswork, control systems, and batteries.
- Perform routine maintenance on high- and medium-voltage electrical systems, including cleaning, lubrication, and visual inspections (e.g., checking oil levels, lights, heaters, and connections).
- Conduct basic electrical testing with voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, insulation meggers, and assist in insulation resistance, relay, transformer, and circuit breaker tests.
- Read and interpret basic electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and work orders with guidance.
- Troubleshoot minor electrical, mechanical, and control system issues under supervision.
- Adhere to lockout/tagout (LOTO), grounding, clearance procedures, and safety protocols (i.e., PPE, emergency rescue techniques).
- Assist in station switching, de-energizing equipment, placing grounds, and coordinating with operators, engineers, and utility crews during outages or operations.
- Support physical tasks including digging/backfilling trenches, installing conduit/pipe/cable/wire, uncrating materials, painting structures, climbing ladders (up to 50+ ft), and operating hand/power tools, generators, blowers, and pumps.
- Respond to emergency situations related to outages, faults, and call-outs for prompt service restoration.
- Accurately document work performed, test results, and observations, maintaining records and preparing basic reports.
