As a Principal Software Developer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the design and architecture of our flagship Lightspeed Retail product, relied upon by thousands of merchants globally. Your hands-on contributions will drive innovative solutions tailored to customer needs, while you elevate engineering excellence throughout the organization. This includes providing technical leadership, advocating for best practices, mentoring fellow engineers, and empowering teams to develop sustainable architectural practices.
We require candidates to be located in the USA and available to work within EST/EDT hours. We offer flexible work environments, including fully remote, partially remote, or fully office-based options (for those near our local offices).
Key Responsibilities
Designing scalable systems to support new initiatives.
Evaluating existing systems and infrastructure to optimize architecture, enhance performance, and eliminate redundancy.
Identifying patterns that lead to incidents and overhead, and implementing solutions.
Driving enhancements in system reliability and performance.
Refining development practices, including design reviews, testing, deployment, and incident management.
Conducting architectural deep-dives and mentoring key team members across various service teams.
Contributing to the cultivation of a high-performance culture within the Retail organization.
Collaborating with the broader team to meet organizational goals, even if it involves tasks outside your immediate responsibilities.
Qualifications
15+ years of professional software development experience.
5+ years of technical leadership experience across multiple teams.
2+ years of architectural management experience involving teams of over 35 engineers.
Proven track record of developing critical business systems at scale in cloud environments.
