About the job
Quartermaster AI develops distributed oceanic systems that enable vessels to sense, process data, and communicate more effectively. By integrating artificial intelligence with robotics, the company supports safer and more sustainable ocean management. These solutions enhance maritime domain awareness for various users.
Role overview
The Principal Systems Engineer - RF Systems leads the technical architecture for Quartermaster AI’s expanding RF systems. This includes responsibility for antennas, edge processing hardware, and cloud integration. The role translates both product and customer requirements into detailed hardware and software specifications, sets interface standards across subsystems, and makes key design and architecture decisions. The aim is to deliver systems that are reliable, scalable, and flexible enough to meet evolving needs.
What you will do
- Direct system architecture across all layers, including antennas, analog components, software-defined radio (SDR) integration, edge computing hardware, data transport, and cloud connectivity.
- Write and update system design documents such as requirements specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), architectural descriptions, and future concept plans.
- Resolve technical challenges spanning RF, embedded systems, compute and algorithm development, and cloud teams, ensuring alignment with design and performance goals.
- Develop and refine system requirements, considering commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), modified COTS, and custom solutions.
- Ensure precise timing and synchronization throughout distributed systems.
- Apply best practices for managing system-level time and frequency biases.
- Oversee requirements traceability from customer input through verification and validation.
- Identify technical risks at the system level and implement mitigation strategies.
- Define and manage the test and evaluation architecture, ensuring lab test infrastructure addresses key system risks and supports system durability.
