Role Overview
Our Data Infrastructure team is responsible for developing and maintaining the systems that fuel Instacart's data ecosystem. This includes a cutting-edge open data lakehouse built on Apache Iceberg, a multi-engine computing platform tailored for both streaming and analytical workloads, along with self-service tools that empower teams in Product, Data Science, Machine Learning, Ads, Finance, and Engineering to effectively utilize data.
We are on the lookout for a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Data Infrastructure to join our Data Governance and Foundations Team. In this pivotal role, you will take charge of the architecture and implementation of our open lakehouse foundation, governance, access patterns, and multi-engine compute strategies. You will be instrumental in balancing the immediate reliability needs with scalability, maturity, and cost-effectiveness for the next three to five years.
Your responsibilities will involve close collaboration with engineering leadership and stakeholders across Data Science, ML Platform, Ads Infrastructure, Finance Engineering, Product Engineering, and Security. You will operate with significant ownership in a fast-paced environment where your architectural decisions carry substantial technical and financial implications.
